How I relocated to Ireland

I am a qualified accountant who is a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).   I relocated from my home country Zimbabwe to Ireland after securing an accounting job in Ireland.  Back home I was working as a Financial Accountant in a private company.

ACCA offers a wide range of support to its members, affiliates and students.

I found the ACCA portal to be very useful and informative.  I searched for jobs on ACCA Careers which can be accessed by students and members through the portal. The portal has a wide range of resources and articles covering various topics from starting a new accounting and finance career, looking to change jobs, adjusting to the ever-changing world, Artificial Intelligence, mental health, everything relevant to accounting and finance careers. 

ACCA Careers is the largest accountancy specialist accountancy job board.  There are thousands of jobs posted everyday from different companies all around the world. 

On the ACCA careers I looked for Finance/Accounting jobs.   I would focus on the job description, skills and experience section and applied for the jobs where I ticked a lot of the boxes.

After applying online through ACCA Careers, I was invited for the first virtual interview and proceeded to the second and final one.  In a few days I was notified I was in their process and got the job.  It was a straightforward process and I did not pay anything.  The company that hired me sponsored the whole process from visa to booking flights to a month’s accommodation and everyone involved in my process was very professional.

That is how I relocated to Ireland.

Tips for the day

• If you are looking to start a finance Career or studying with an internationally recognised accounting board, visit ACCA website. 
• Do not hesitate to invest in your education
• It’s never too late to start.
• Every experience count, whatever you are doing now do your best, that experience will prove useful in your career progression.

Tips for easy search on jobs

• You can narrow down your search by searching for a specific country, company and or job title.
• Paying attention to job descriptions can be very useful, that way you can apply for the jobs that you have experience in or passionate about.
